I was looking forward to the ride to Haines Junction. I had read it was a pretty town and I left the campground at 10 am. It was windy, a strong headwind from the East, buffeted only when climbing. As soon as I left from the campsite I saw a beautiful mudland which I had to cross. The crosswinds there were very strong but the landscapes were amazing. I was having problems with my rear wheel spokes and I had to spend almost an hour on the highway fixing the problem. This was a day of a lot of climbing and some steep ascents. It was also the day of my first bear sighting! It was a black bear just 15 kms before Haines junction/. The scenery was beautiful during the day though the sun shone brightly almost all day. Creeks were plentiful so I had no problem filling water along the way.
Camped at: Kluane Inn, where I stayed 2 nights as I was very tired. Decent rooms, good free WiFi and free laundry with an excellent view of the mountains and a glacier. Would highly recommend the Village Bakery. Outstanding baked products, burgers, pizzas and sandwiches/coffee. Very friendly staff and high speed free WiFi!
