The temperature read as -3 deg C at 9 am on the day I set off on the famous Icefield Parkway. Thankfully, the skies were clear and the weather forecast was 4 to 5 days of sunshine, and I looked forward to traversing the most beautiful highway in the world without rain or fog to dampen my spirits. <about 20 ms onto the parkway and the views began to get stunning. Glaciated mountains and snow covered peaks rose into the sky, flanking the road. Alongside gushed the Athabasca river. I reached the HI Hostel at Beauty Creek at 8pm just as the sun was beginning to set. The cold was numbing. Earlier I had met Helene and Emile, from Quebec, who were cycling from Whitehorse. They too were staying at the hostel and had made it an hour before. There was a small fire on, and I also met a middle aged Australian couple who were biking on the parkway. The sunset that day was amongst the most beautiful I have ever seen. The hostel was priced okay at 22 CAD. It had a basic and rustic kitchen with even more rustic dormitories, which were thankfully heated.
