At Bell 2 I met with Curtis and Jenny again. We had last met at Whitehorse. It was simply great to get to know them better and they have become good buddies! We spent the next few days cycling together to Meziadin Junction, Stewart – Hyder and then Kitwanga.
The ride from Bell 2 to Meziadin Junction was very eventful. The day started with me spotting a Lynx crossing the road and just 5 mins later, I whizzed past a black bear eating berries on the side of the road, as I took the corner, barely 10 ft away from me. For those precious few seconds, like the previous sighting as well, man and bear exchanged greetings through their eyes. I love the gentle look of the bears, knowing they can be ferocious if provoked. Nonetheless they are gentle and lovely animals!
The climb to Meziadin junction started after 20 kms, and the incessant headwind did not make it easier! The landscapes were just too pretty and helped me to take my mind off. It was a partly cloudy / sunny day, perfect for cycling. The colors of Fall had begun to take over and the road was dotted with golden yellow trees, fireweed turning a lovely brownish pink with its cotton fluff blowing in the wind ! and yes the climb was long and never ending!
I stopped over at the junction gas station and helped myself to coke, muffins and chips! Also met lovely Kassandra who was looking after the store. She is a proud local First Nation Indian from Terrace and belongs to the Eagle clan,.
