An early start at 9 am enabled me to observe the oyster fishing operations up close in Willapa Bay and also catch a hearty breakfast at the Dock of the Bay restaurant which was fashioned like the bridge section of a ship.
The ride to Astoria was wonderful and filled with scenic views. I reached the small town of Naselle around 2 pm and had delicious coffee and sandwiches at Mocha and More, a simple but smart takeaway roadside coffee house. The lady there told me that a huge storm was building up with warnings of hurricanes being issued. I knew I was at the center of the pacific northwest disturbance that would last another couple of months.
